Pick the correct route
To retain a UK mobile number, Ofcom explains the PAC process; the text route is PAC to 65075 where applicable. STAC to 75075 is used for switching without retaining the number. Codes are valid for 30 days. Multi-line accounts may need a different route.
Give the code only to the receiving provider through its official process. Requesting a code and completing a transfer are different actions. Ask the current provider about outstanding obligations before deciding when to proceed.

Protect continuity
Check the new service and handset first. Avoid scheduling the move immediately before a trip or an important event where losing access would cause difficulty. Keep an alternative communication method while the transfer is in progress.
Do not cancel the old line first when you need to retain its number. A separate phone-payment agreement or household service may continue even after airtime moves.
03 / Changing service
Check the result
Try incoming calls from another network and normal text messages. A displayed number in device settings is not conclusive proof of correct routing. Report specific failures to the receiving provider with dates and examples.
Keep the final account statement and query unexplained items. A transfer is not evidence that all remaining balances or related agreements have disappeared.
